A Winter Blast

Well, besides a great start to our ski season, the deep snowfall has pushed the wildlife into lower elevations making it a great time of year for wildlife observation! Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep have come into the lower elevations and we've been observing both the pinnacle peak and antelope wolf packs as they have been moving with the elk herds as they move onto the refuge for the winter. There's still snow up high in the Teton Rangeand in the Absarokas on the eastern border of Yellowstone, but it is all full-swing summer in the valleys andplateaus. Summer Is On!
BrushBuckCreated Friday, 24 June 2011Who turned the “summer” switch on? Whoever it was, give them a pat on the back from us! Yes, summer officially arrived 4 days ago! Up here around the 45th parallel, we can’t go by the calendar date of June 21st, we have to wait until it stops snowing and the sun stays out for more than 2 days straight. The temperatures are now in the upper 70’s and the wildlife is still incredible. Bear are still out foraging after an extended winter and wolves are on the prowl, looking for a bison or elk calf...

The Amazing Spring

Snow has continued to fall in the Tetons with the total at the top of the mountains exceeding 46 feet this season and 37 feet mid-mountain! But Spring has arrived with its rich carpet of green dotted with wildflowers and abundant wildlife. Theyoung are arriving too!
